Duathlon and Sprint Tri championship races 2015 decided

Duathlon and Sprint champions crowned at Ful-On Duathlon and Crystal Palace Triathlon

At this time of year the club championship races come thick and fast!

First up 2 weeks ago on Sunday 26th April was the duathlon championship race at round 3 of the London League the Ful-On Duathlon.

22 Serpies lined up at the Dunsfold Airfield for this year’s club championship duathlon race. The weather was cool and damp and with turn out lower than expected the race was combined into a one wave start. A lead group of 6 men quickly formed and remained together throughout lap one. The lead group was whittled down to 4 by the end of the first run with Vanrisch Mclean from Serpentine leading into T1 with Gary Laybourne  from SLH. In the ladies race Sara Thomas was first into T1 with a 40 second advantage.

Out on the bike the wind made conditions for the cyclist tough. The leading Serpies both dropped back with Vanrisch dropping to 5th and Sara to 6th during the cycle. However, strong final runs from both saw Vanrisch climb back up to 2nd and Sara to 3rd in the process winning the club championship.

Yesterday Sunday 10th May it was Crystal Palace Sprint Triathlon at Round 4 of the London League and another club championship race. 25 Serpies raced but unlike the duathlon this is more a time trial than a race due to the staggered start nature of the pool based swim.

Fastest Serpies on the day were again Vanrisch Mclean 11th overall and Sara Thomas 5th lady. Sara also won 3rd place in the 30 - 39 female category. Note the offical results show Andy Greenleaf as fastest Serpie on the day which indeed he was, finishing 2nd overall. However, Andy wasn't wearing club kit so doesn't qualify for the championships.

Full update on the London League to follow once the standings are updated.
