Ribble Valley 10k (27 Dec 2011)

The race takes place in Clitheroe Lancashire and its a scenic, flat course (60 metres gain and loss) and the roads are closed for the race. There's a drink station around 5k. It's a well organised race with chip timing and its also part of the Northern Athletics Championships. There is good parking and the local Leisure Centre serves as the race HQ and bag drop.

Last year's race was cancelled due to ice and blizzard conditions, this year it was a balmy 12 degrees and the rain stopped nicely 45 minutes before the start; shorts and t-shirt weather! The race limit is 1,500, even so it was a little crowded at the start with 900. But we all went off at a good pace with 300m of flat then sharp down to the bridge over the River Ribble and up the other side. A gently climb of 30m over to the 'top' of the course approaching the 4k mark, then a long gentle mostly downhill for 4k. A couple of quick ups and then longer downhills back to rejoin where the race started for a sharp down and back up at the bridge over the River Ribble again. Over the bridge there is just 400m to go, the the sharp up after the bridge is over in just 100m and then its a flat 300m sprint past the cheering spectators to the finish! Free water and a t-shirt for all.

If you're in the Northwest over Christmas this is a good one to burn off your Christmas excess!

Ribble Valley 10k (28 Dec 2014)

Very fast, very scenic course, closed roads with approx 1,000 runners and is used as the Northern Althletics Champs. Great marshalls and organisation. Definitely recommend if anyone happens to be in the area at this time of year. It also allows entries on the day.
